Colorado junior Eric Molnar was one of 36 at-large players selected Thursday for the NCAA Division I men’s tennis championships, one day after the Buffaloes received an at-large bid for the team tournament.
The Buffs (19-8) open play as a team May 13 against Arizona (12-9) in Los Angeles. The singles competition begins May 24 at Stanford.
Molnar, from Guelph, Ontario, was an all-Big 12 singles selection this season, posting a 25-16 record that includes a 17-6 spring mark. He won 11 matches playing the No. 1 singles position and defeated eight nationally ranked players.
Colorado College senior Lily Dashiell received an invitation to play in the Division III championships, which start May 20 in Santa Cruz, Calif. Dashiell set a school record this season with 16 wins at No. 1 singles.
UNC in position to extend reign in rugby
The Northern Colorado men’s rugby team will try to defend its national title Saturday in the USA Rugby Division II championship game at Stanford.
The Bears, coming off a 39-28 victory over Claremont in the semifinals, will play the Coast Guard Academy, which defeated Humboldt State 12-6. UNC defeated Humboldt State last year in the championship game.
