Regis University qualified for the NCAA Division II softball tournament with an 11-2 win Saturday over CSU-Pueblo (29-20) in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament championship game at Regis Field. It is the Rangers’ second straight RMAC tournament title.

Regis (48-13) cruised after a six-run second inning highlighted by a bases-loaded single from Michelle Johnson. The Rangers’ Anna Schafer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and was named tournament MVP. The game was halted after five innings because of the eight-run rule.

Coast Guard sinks UNC’s rugby title chances

Northern Colorado men’s rugby team was not able to defend its USA Rugby Division II national title, losing 17-12 in the championship game Saturday to the Coast Guard Academy in Stanford, Calif.

DU women’s lacrosse to play for league title

The No. 1 seeded University of Denver women’s lacrosse team advanced to the championship game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament with a 14-6 win over host Oregon (9-9) in Saturday’s semifinal.

Freshman Karen Morton had five goals, four in the first half, and two assists to pace the Pioneers. DU cruised after taking a 9-4 lead at halftime.

DU (15-4) will face Stanford, which defeated rival California 17-6 Saturday, for the championship at 2 p.m. today.

Colorado cyclists crowd the podium in Calif.

Shonny Vanlandingham of Durango and Geoff Kabush of Canada captured women’s and men’s titles in the cross-country event at Fontana, Calif., on Saturday.

2004 Olympic Team members Todd Wells of Durango and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski of Boulder crashed in the final corner. Horgan-Kobelski was able to take the silver medal, but Wells wound up fourth.

Vanlandingham cruised to a wire-to-wire win in the 21-mile race. Heather Irmiger of Boulder won the bronze.
