WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis.-
It's not unusual to see lifeguards stationed at a waterslide to make sure everyone gets off safely. But in late June, two water parks in Wisconsin Dells will be stationing volunteers with clickers at the bottom of a couple of slides to count how many people are taking part in a waterslide-a-thon to raise money for charity.
The money will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Madison, where families stay when their children are being treated for cancer and other serious medical problems at local hospitals.
A dollar will be donated by the parks for every visitor using one slide at Mount Olympus Water & Theme Park, and another slide at Noah's Ark Waterpark, on June 24 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Ronald McDonald House canisters will also be displayed at attraction ticket windows, hotel front desks and store checkouts around town, and participating businesses will match every dollar dropped in that day.
Families who stay at Ronald McDonald House are asked to contribute $10 a night for each night they stay, but that only covers a small part of the actual costs.
