DU’s Nicholson to work out for Nuggets

Yemi Nicholson of the University of Denver and Justin Williams of Wyoming are two of five college basketball players the Nuggets will bring in for workouts Tuesday.

Also working out will be Greg Brunner of Iowa, Guillermo Diaz of Miami and Daniel Horton of Michigan. The Nuggets have the 49th overall selection in NBA draft June 28.

Broncos sign Adams State punter

Former Adams State punter Jeff Williams, who set a Division II record for career punting average, is working out with the Broncos after signing a free-agent contract. Williams will try to impress head coach Mike Shanahan during the quarterback camp that runs through Thursday.

Williams, who played at Longmont’s Skyline High School and lived in Mead, says the opportunity is “a dream come true” and is fully aware the Broncos could waive him at any time. “I’ve got to go hard every day,” Williams said.

Metro’s Dunlap to help U.S. under-18 team

Metropolitan State basketball coach Mike Dunlap was selected by the USA Basketball men’s collegiate committee as one of six court coaches for the USA men’s under-18 national team trials, June 16-18 in San Antonio.

Dunlap was also a court coach last summer, for the 2005 USA men’s under-22 national team trials.
