Long live the Scotchman!

If you remember Denver’s drive-in hamburger joints from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, head to Bandimere Speedway June 4 for an auto/motorcycle show and the Scotchman Motor Restaurants customer and employee reunion.

The restaurants were located at 4960 Federal and 4105

Wadsworth boulevards. They were the homes of Denver’s cruising teens, “American Graffiti” come alive.

Organizer Jerry Bivens notes the Scotchman thrived on “negative advertising.” Or maybe owner Carl Cerveny just liked to make fun of himself and the kids. Posters for the joints boasted slogans: “The only place in town where the customer is always wrong,” “The final resting place of all Centennial race horses” and “Our food’s not touched by human hands… our chef is a monkey.”

Getting real

MTV’s “Real World” house at 1920 Market St. is some fancy pad. But we won’t get to see the insides until the show airs in the late fall.

By that time, it will probably be for sale. Heritage Bank, which took the deed to the property from the former owners of B-52 Billiards in lieu of foreclosure, sold it to the show’s production company in March for $2.7 million. Workman have been transforming the 21,927-square-foot club into a cool pad for weeks now. The kids are due any day.

After filming, insiders imagine that the place will go on the block again. It still has a liquor license. Rock Island’s David Clamage is “babysitting” it so it’ll be there at sale time.

Get moving!

The June 1 “Get Motivated” symposium is sold out at the Pepsi Center – so it expanded to the Denver Coliseum. Speakers Zig Ziglar, Steve Forbes, Suze Orman, Tom Hopkins, Mike Shanahan, Gen. Colin Powell and Ru-

dolph Giuliani will ride limos to and from the two venues. Quick!

Meanwhile, local speaker-promoter Joe Sabah is celebrating his 75th birthday by sending his friends free tickets.

Daddio

Morton’s Steakhouse is looking for Denver’s rarest Dad. Write a 200-400 word essay on why your dad is so darn great and hand it into Morton’s by June 1. Judges John Lynch, Tom Nalen, Jim Benemann and Vic Lombardi will pick a winner, who earns a Morton’s feast of shrimp, prime porterhouse steaks and chocolate cake at home on Father’s Day, cooked by a Morton’s chef and served by the tuxedoed maitre d’.

City spirit

Pueblo Reunion 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Seawell Ballroom … Some seats remain for Unique Lives Series’ Robert Redford appearance June 7 at the Buell. Instead of giving a speech, Redford will be interviewed by Denver Post movie critic Lisa Kennedy. Call 877-872-8124 … Sez who: “Oh, this age. How tasteless and ill-bred it is.” Catullus
