Mountain tram opens Saturday

The Estes Park Aerial Tramway, which has transported millions of visitors to the scenic 8,700-foot summit of Prospect Mountain, begins its 51st season of operation Saturday. The tram will operate 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily through Sept. 10.

Riders take a four-minute ride 1,100 vertical feet up the mountain, gliding along up to 200 feet above the mountainside.

Round-trip tickets are $9 for adults, $8 for those 60 and older, $4 for children 6 to 11 and free for children 5 and younger accompanied by a parent. Group discounts are available.

BERTHOUD FALLS

Road work to cause delays on pass

Construction crews are beginning the third and final season of work to widen the last 2-mile segment of Berthoud Pass.

Until fall, motorists can expect delays up to 20 minutes along U.S. 40 on the east side of Berthoud Pass between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to noon Fridays.

Scheduled work on the $15.6 million project includes construction of the new roadway, reconfiguration of the Henderson Mine Road intersection, completion of the final retaining wall, installation of concrete barriers and drainage structures, and revegetation of the slopes.

Weekend cycling competition set

The seventh annual Rocky Mountain Cycling Omnium will be today through Monday in the Evergreen and Golden areas.

The event, for disabled riders and able-bodied competitors, features a time trial Saturday on Upper Bear Creek, circuit races at Red Rocks Community College and in Golden on Sunday, and a criterium finale through downtown Golden on Monday. For more information, go to adaptiveadventures.org.

Input sought on school curriculum

The Poudre School District’s Health Curriculum Advisory Board is finalizing the district’s human sexuality curriculum for seventh grade and is seeking public input.

A community forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Boltz Junior High School, 720 Boltz Drive.
