Consider it beginner’s luck or the sort of good fortune that often follows youth. But for 15-year-old Steven McGimpsey of Louisville, the fates that permitted him to bag an 18-pound tom turkey west of Walsenburg last month had more to do with the doting attention of his two uncles.
Boulder residents Dave and Bob Rowan helped the New Vista High School freshman line up the gobbler on his first day of hunting.
“It was pretty fun,” McGimpsey said with classic understatement.
