Albertson’s LLC has announced plans to close 16 Albertsons and Grocery Warehouse stores in Colorado.
The news comes less than a week after the company – formed when an investment group led by Cerberus Capital Management LP purchased Albertson’s stores in the Rocky Mountains, northern California, Florida, Dallas-Fort Worth and the Southwest – completed its purchase of the stores.
The company said the closure of the 16 “under-performing” stores will allow it to focus and invest on the remaining 52 stores it owns. The stores are expected to close within the next several weeks.
While the stores slated for closure make up 23 percent of the company’s Rocky Mountain division stores, they have accounted for only 13 of sales over the past year, the company said.
