Prosecutor in Nacchio probe quitting case

A U.S. Justice Department attorney who was involved in the investigation of former Qwest chief executive Joe Nacchio and was expected to help prosecute him has withdrawn from the case.

Michael Koenig, a Justice Department fraud section trial attorney, will leave Justice and go into private practice, said Jeff Dorschner, spokesman for the Colorado U.S. attorney’s office.

Nacchio faces 42 insider-trading counts of selling $100.8 million in Qwest shares from January to May 2001.

Crocs settles lawsuit with Honolulu firm

Crocs Inc. has agreed to settle a patent infringement lawsuit against Acme Ex-Im of Honolulu. The firm was one of 11 sued by Crocs in April for allegedly copying its patented footwear.

As part of the settlement, Acme Ex-Im has agreed to not infringe on Crocs patents in the future, and Crocs will release the company of past liability.

With pink cellphones, Qwest fights cancer

Qwest is touting its new pink cellphone as a stylish way to help in the fight against breast cancer.

From now until October, Qwest will donate 10 percent of the phones’ sales to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Nancy Brinker started the foundation in 1982 to honor her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at 36.

Qwest plans to offer two more pink phones later this summer. Verizon, Cingular and T-Mobile also offer pink phones.

Intrawest breaking ground on resort

Intrawest Corp. will break ground Monday on the first phase of its new resort village at Winter Park Resort.

The first phase entails two condominium hotel buildings, Founders Point and Fraser Crossing. The lodges will have a total of 194 units, a parking structure and roughly 20,000 square feet of commercial space. The units, ranging from studios to three bedrooms, are priced from $250,000 to more than $1 million.

Intrawest, which operates Winter Park for the city of Denver, also owns Copper Mountain in Colorado.

Navigant sets meeting on Wagonlit merger

Navigant International Inc. set July 12 as the date for a special meeting of stockholders to vote on its proposed merger with Carlson Wagonlit.

The board of directors in April approved the merger agreement, which entitles shareholders to $16.50 in cash per share of Navigant common stock.

EchoStar, DirecTV offer rural broadband

Targeting rural homes, satellite-TV providers EchoStar Communications Corp. and DirecTV Inc. will resell broadband Internet access via satellite from WildBlue Communications Inc.

Greenwood Village-based WildBlue has about 60,000 customers in the United States.

EchoStar and DirecTV have 27 million customers combined, many of them in rural areas with access to few, if any, choices for broadband Internet.

OpSec completes GenuOne purchase

OpSec Security Inc., a division of Applied Optical Technologies Plc., said it has completed the acquisition of GenuOne Inc., a Boston-based provider of brand-protection solutions. OpSec paid $13 million in cash for GenuOne.
