TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.-

As if sparkling lakes, golf courses and fudge shops weren't enough, this northern Michigan resort community now has another tourist attraction: Beach Bums.

A minor league baseball team called the Beach Bums, that is.

The newly established franchise is a member of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent league with teams in Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and Indiana.

The stadium, Wuerfel Park, has 3,500 seats, plus 48 four-person tables, a party deck for groups and extensive lawn seating. For youngsters whose attention spans wander, there's a playground, video game room and toddler romper room.

Response from locals fans has been enthusiastic; about 1,200 season tickets have been sold. The team needs to average 2,500 spectators a night to break even.
