An Adams County jury has convicted a man in a gruesome murder that dates back 26 years.
It was 1980 when 15-year-old Nanine Grimes was found stabbed more than 80 times in her Adams County home. Now, Troy Brownlow will spend the rest of his life in prison for the crime.
The jury on Tuesday convicted Brownlow of first-degree murder in the Sept. 12, 1980, killing of Grimes, who was found by her older sister.
“It’s the best day ever,” said the sister, Deanna Davis. “We finally have justice. That’s all we ever wanted.”
Brownlow, now 43, went to school with the sisters and lived nearby. He said he didn’t stab Grimes that night. He said he shoved her, but someone else was in the room.
Blood samples were taken at the time, but DNA technology was not available to determine the source.
Last year, Brownlow was matched by DNA comparisons to the blood samples found at the crime scene.
Brownlow gave his DNA when he was released from an Arizona prison in another case, and the information was entered into a national database. He was then linked to the Grimes killing.
