Summer brings many children’s theater offerings from Denver deep into the mountains.
Any staging this year will be hard-pressed to be as cute as local comedian Edith Weiss’ “Hyronomous A. Frog: The Frog Prince” in Breckenridge.
Weiss’ retelling, coming in July to the Backstage Theatre, tells the familiar tale of the hapless bog-dweller’s mission to be transformed into a real person. But first, he must contend with a spoiled princess and an arrogant knight named Lancelot Pancelot. Alternating weekends July 7-Sept. 3 at 121 S. Ridge St. The cast includes Christopher Willard, 2004 Denver Post Ovation Award for best children’s theater actor (970-453-0199).
Some of the many other offerings (performed by adult actors unless noted):
“Emilia’s Tree”: Creede Repertory Theatre is debuting this original collaboration between kids, professional actors and puppets written by Jeff Carey (author of “Pan & Boone” and graduate of the Denver Center’s National Theatre Conservatory). .org). Creede is 250 miles southwest of Denver.
