Realtor Rollie Jordan tried to sell the famous Sculptured House all over the world. But she found a buyer in her own backyard.

The house, made famous in Woody Allen’s 1973 movie “Sleeper,” was on the market for four years. TV shows from around the globe did features on the pad, along with countless slick magazines. But Jordan was introduced to the buyer at a Kempe Foundation funder in February by man-about-town Kevin Joseph. It was a freezing-cold night. Both Jordan and buyer Michael Dunahay of Vacation Solutions planned to skip the party, but fate pulled them into the night. Like Allen said, “Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

So it ends well for everyone. Jordan finally sells the house, Dunahay buys and moves into the house, and Joseph becomes the caretaker of the house. He’s living there in an apartment in a tower. King of the hill. He will help Dunahay “protect, preserve and improve” the property. Dunahay says he’ll continue the tradition of former owner John Huggins, Denver’s director of economic development, “to make the property available for fundraisers that support worthy causes locally and nationwide.”

One big hope is to get Allen back to the house in the fall for a fundraiser to benefit the Denver International Film Society – 33 years since “Sleeper.” That would be a party.

Misters President

Bill Clinton was in town Friday for the Columbine Memorial groundbreaking, some Democratic fundraising – and dinner at Strings. He was there at a table of 10 top Dems, then worked the crowd on his way to the bathroom. “Isn’t this a great restaurant!” he said to one group.

Strings has fed a lot of big shots over the past 20 years, including Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney. But, says owner/chef Noel Cunningham, “Clinton is the top of the heap.”

And Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are rafting this week with Hank Hotze and his Gunnison River Expeditions. It’s their third outing on a Colorado river.
