Open champ Ogilvy expected at Castle Pines
U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy is expected to be in the field for The International on Aug. 7-13 at Castle Pines, tournament officials said Monday. Players who have committed to compete include Chris DiMarco, Charles Howell III and first-time PGA Tour winners Aaron Baddeley and Carl Pettersson.
“We’ve always known that Geoff was a superstar in the making,” tournament director Larry Thiel said in a release. Ogilvy has played four times previous at The International. He is second on the PGA Tour money list, having won $3,919,394.
Colorado Chill won’t play in upcoming season
The Colorado Chill will no longer field a team in the financially insecure, four-team National Women’s Basketball League, team owner Dave King told the Fort Collins Coloradoan.
King told the paper, “We cannot go forward at this time based on our past experience with the NWBL’s inability to attract enough financially stable franchises.” He said the league and other teams are indebted to the Chill for travel costs from the past season.
In its three seasons in the NWBL, the Chill won championships in 2005 and 2006 and was runner-up in 2004.
