Pheasants forever

Two new Denver metro groups have joined the more than 600 chapters of Pheasants Forever nationwide.

Bennett resident Zack Ewing will serve as founding president of the Bijou Creek chapter in Adams County. The Arapahoe chapter will be led by Garth Reed of Centennial.

The national organization is seeking conservation leaders to begin chapters in Alamosa, Brighton, Boulder, Denver, Golden, Greeley, Pueblo and Rocky Ford. Call Drew Larsen at 308-534-2807 or e-mail dlarsen@pheasantsforever.org.

Stop bucket brigades

In a move that might have application for Colorado, wildlife authorities in Wyoming have adopted a plan to halt unauthorized fish stockings.

Under its “Stop Poaching” program, Wyoming Game and Fish will offer a $2,500 reward for information leading to the conviction of anyone planting fish illegally. These so-called “bucket brigades” increasingly have become a problem in Western states where exotic species often disrupt existing ecosystems.

Such activity is illegal in Colorado and punishable by fines. But this state has no reward incentive for detecting perpetrators.
