A close shave for Dirk

Don’t worry Dallas Mavericks fans: Dirk Nowitzki was bored, not despondent, when he took a razor to his head the day after the NBA Finals. “It’s summertime,” Nowitzki said Thursday, showing off a clean-shaven face and head. “Sitting home yesterday, I was disappointed, obviously; frustrated. I had to do something.” On the day the Mavericks were hoping to host a winner-take-all Game 7 against the Miami Heat, they were instead getting on with their lives. From Nowitzki sporting his new haircut to Marquis Daniels flashing a diamond grill in his mouth to Darrell Armstrong showing up in golf attire and a bucket hat, the change from championship mode to summer vacation was stark.

The world is not always his oyster

Evernham Racing will have veteran driver Bill Elliott on standby this weekend, because Scott Riggs, who drives the No. 10 Dodge, injured both of his feet while unloading a jet ski during vacation with his family. He had 12 stitches on the ball of his left foot and eight stitches on his right foot. “It was a freak incident at Myrtle Beach, S.C.,” Riggs said. “There was no warning about an oyster bed where we unloaded. We’ll see what happens when I get in the race car.”

It rings of envy

“Kobe Bryant was so upset, he bought himself a diamond ring.”
