Who: Jenn Polan, left, of Denver with local fisherman/boat tour guide Joseph Brown and Sadiki Harris of Denver.
Where: Floyd’s Pelican Bar about 25 minutes by boat northwest of Treasure Beach. The bar is located in the ocean, and you can’t swim there from land.
Best meal: Floyd’s lobster lunch, drinking a Red Stripe; be sure to have your guide call ahead and order.
Best deal: Always haggle over prices with the locals; nothing is the price they originally are selling it for.
Best time to go: We like to travel to the Caribbean a few days after New Year’s. It’s great because all the holiday traffic has gone and there is a lull until the busy season picks up again. A few small rain showers go down on the southern coast, but on average it’s 85 every day and about 75 at night and not too much humidity.
Best travel tip: Spend every evening watching the sunset – it’s incredible. Then put on bug spray! Don’t fly out of Montego Bay on a Sunday; the ride to the airport from Treasure Beach is two hours, and it seemed every tourist was leaving that day.
