Fire ban on DOW lands
The prohibition on open fires issued last week by Gov. Bill Owens applies to all Colorado state wildlife areas (SWAs) and all state trust lands. The Colorado Division of Wildlife manages 241 SWAs totaling 490,000 acres. Most are limited to day-use activity, but some are open for camping. DOW also manages 216 state trust parcels that total 534,000 acres.
Stamps required
Recreationists who plan to use one of these 241 SWAs over the upcoming holiday are reminded that adults from the ages of 18 to 64 must purchase a Colorado Wildlife Habitat Stamp. The annual fee is $10.25, and the stamp is available anywhere hunting or fishing licenses are sold.
Shooting for women
The Division of Wildlife will offer a basic skills course for skeet shooting from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Golden Gun Club, south of Watkins. The event is open to women ages 16 and older. Ammunition and shotguns are provided; lunch costs $5. Reservations are required for the free clinic, 303-291-7545.
