“Georgia O’Keeffe: Color and Conservation” explores artist’s commitment to own works
The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is hosting “Georgia O’Keeffe: Color and Conservation” through Sept. 10, an exhibition that looks at the extent to which the artist was involved in conserving her own art and the importance of her relationship with noted conservator Caroline Keck. The show includes not only paintings and pastels and photographs of the artist, but also letters between O’Keeffe and Keck. In addition, the collection displays hundreds of paint chips O’Keeffe made by applying a color to a small piece of canvas or board and identifying the components of the color on the back. Spike & Annie brings Balinese children’s clothing line kidsagogo to U.S. market
New children’s clothing store Spike & Annie will be the first in the United States to offer the Balinese children’s clothing line kidsagogo, which creates hand-printed batik and embroidered clothing and bedding for babies and children. The materials are made by more than 100 villagers from Seminyak , who roll the fabric out on benches and hand-stamp it with wax using metal forms that have been carved with patterns before dyeing it and drying it in the sun. Spike & Annie owner and part-time Roaring Fork resident Sarah Johnson Redlich befriended kidsagogo designer Sue Hadinata in Bali and is importing the line to her store, which will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Spike & Annie, 611 E. Brasserie Ruhlmann latest restaurant from chef Laurent Tourondel of BLT Steak fame
The name comes from Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, an art deco artist and craftsman whose style in this restaurant plays out in octagonal mirrors, nickel-plated sconces and ebony macassar walls. But the menu is pure Laurent Tourondel, whose BLT Steak, BLT Fish and BLT Prime have become known for their whimsical touches. So look for this reasonably priced Rockefeller Center brasserie to hit hard on nostalgic French – croque Monsieur, steak frites, rabbit and sole meunière – but also eggs “Rockefeller” and tuna tartare.
