Quarterback Matt Ballenger of Nampa, Idaho, has committed to the University of Colorado, the third player to do so for the Buffs’ 2007 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Ballenger, of Skyview High School, competed against incoming CU freshman quarterback Cody Hawkins. Earlier oral commitments to the Buffs for 2007 are Northglenn High School’s Anthony Perkins and defensive back Lamont Smith from Pittsburgh, who decided on the Buffs without visiting Boulder.

The Mountain West Conference named Air Force senior Matt Karmondy and New Mexico senior Maja Kovacek its student-athletes of the year.

Karmondy, a two-time all-conference selection, led the Falcons’ swimming and diving team to a third-place finish at the MWC championships. Kovacek was the only two-time All-America selection in New Mexico women’s tennis history. She was a two-time MWC player of the year and four-time all-conference selection.
