KDVR-Channel 31 is bringing back reruns of the smash animated series “The Simpsons” at 10 p.m. weeknights, beginning Monday.
This will give the Fox outlet three “Simpsons” a day at 6, 6:30 and 10 p.m. and cost 90 minutes out of my daily life that I might have used finding a cure for couch potato-ism.
“We had ‘Simpsons’ in the time period for about a year, and it just did so well,” said Bill Schneider, g.m. at Fox. So well, in fact, that in November 2003, it drew a 5 rating against the late news on Denver’s Big Three.
Incredibly, the show just completed its 17th season and is as laugh-provoking as ever.
The addition of a third “Simpsons” means “Seinfeld” reruns are bumped back to 10:30 p.m.
“The late fringe (time period) is so competitive,” said Schneider. “We try to keep it as consistent as possible. You have to look at what the viewers are responding to. It recruits a ton of people.”
On the plus side, the shift also means that “Geraldo” won’t air until 11 p.m.

It’s as American as county fairs and funnel cakes. “Dirt Track Racing” traces the phenomenon of auto racing found on 800 dirt tracks across the country (8 and 11 p.m., CNN).

Garrison Keillor and Meryl Streep re-create their highly successful pairing in the movie version of “Prairie Home Companion” in a Fourth of July celebration from Tanglewood, Mass. Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly guest as “Dusty” and “Lefty” (9 p.m., KRMA-Channel 6).

It’s a little behind the curve (the ban goes into effect Saturday) but “Colorado State of Mind” debates the fairness of the new anti-smoking law (7:30 tonight, Channel 6). … More blowing of smoke: Dino Costa, the fiery host of “Raw Sports,” takes his radio rant and his cigar-smoking pal Tom Jensen to Tewksbury & Co. tobacco and wine store in Larimer Square (11 a.m. today, KRCN 1060-AM). … The TV Land network, home of classic TV programming, devotes its weekend to the memory of Aaron Spelling, creator of “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Love Boat” and other memorable TV fare who died last Friday. … Quotable: “Beans are neither fruit nor musical.” Bart Simpson
