Westlake Village, Calif. – Denver International Airport was not the favorite among travelers in the J.D. Power and Associates North America Airport Satisfaction Study released Thursday. In it, DIA is ranked 15th out of 16 large airports.

DIA was below average and came in just ahead of San Francisco International. The study is based on responses from more than 9,800 passengers who flew between January and May.

No. 1 among large airports was McCarran International in Las Vegas, which ranked high in check-in, security checks and terminal facilities.

Tied for second were John F. Kennedy International in New York and Philadelphia International.

In another J.D. Power report Thursday, travelers ranked JetBlue Airways as their favorite low-cost carrier and Continental Airlines as the best traditional network carrier.

Frontier Airlines came in fourth of the four low-cost carriers ranked, and United Airlines was sixth of eight network carriers ranked.

Continental excelled in check-in, in-flight services and costs among the traditional segment, which includes airlines that operate multi-cabin planes and use multiple hubs.

Delta Air Lines was a close second to Continental.

Fliers value easy check-in and friendly service over such factors as in-flight meals and other amenities, according to the survey conducted by J.D. Power in conjunction with Aviation Week magazine.

JetBlue received top ratings in seven areas surveyed, including costs and fees, in-flight services, check-in, flight crew and flight reservations.

Southwest Airlines was second among low-cost carriers.

Denver Post staff writer Kelly Yamanouchi contributed to this report.
