Colorado is home to music movies this summer.

Last week, it was Rob Thomas of matchbox twenty making a DVD of his concert at Red Rocks.

On Sunday and Monday, legendary filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich was at the Pepsi Center getting footage for his documentary on the 30-year career of Tom Petty, who was in town for the gig with Pearl Jam.

According to industry reports, Bogdanovich has been given “total access” to the band for the film, which will include interviews, vintage videos and live performances.

“I know a little about rock ‘n’ roll, but I’m not an expert,” Bogdanovich told Billboard magazine. “I’m attracted to things that are very American – basically Southern American – and I think (Petty’s) songs have a kind of ambiguity and impressionistic quality that are very intriguing.” No title or release date yet.

Fast food film

“Fast Food Nation” is due in theaters in October – a dramatization based on the book. And the flick comes down in Colorado Springs.

It’s directed by Richard Linklater (“Slacker,” “School of Rock,” “Before Sunrise”) and features a starry cast that includes Greg Kinnear, Ashley Johnson, Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, Kris Kristofferson, Avril Lavigne, Catalina Sandino Moreno and others.

The movie was filmed under the code names “Coyote” and “Travels with Nutmeg 2” because Linklater reportedly feared that the fast food industry might work to disrupt the project.

Most of the filming was done in Austin, Texas, but Linklater, Kinnear and Bruce Willis (who is not listed on the cast roster) spent a day shooting at the Bear Rock Cafe in Colorado Springs in November.

You can see a trailer for the movie by going to imdb.com and searching for “fast food nation.” The film follows three intertwined stories: a young woman radicalized while working at Mickey’s fast-food restaurant, illegal immigrants working in a slaughterhouse and Kinnear as a marketing exec becomes part of Mickey’s organization. Seems there’s something in those beef patties that we really don’t want to eat. Lecture circuit

My favorite metro lecture series is almost half over, so make plans now. The Mixed Taste series examines two (seemingly) unrelated subjects and runs Thursday nights through Aug. 17 at Belmar’s The Lab. Tonight’s subjects: Women Rockers and Martin Scorsese. Upcomers: USDA Meat Grading and Apparitions of the Virgin Mary; Mies van der Rohe and Brazilian Music; Cowboy Yodeling and Michel Foucault; Dada and Monster Movies; Chicano Rights Movement and the History of Pornography. City spirit

Check out the summer issue of Celebrity car magazine with La La Vasquez on the cover with her pink Range Rover (painted to match her cellphone!) and her two Rottweilers … Bob Saget, the dirtiest guy in “The Aristocrats” (which is saying something), is at the Comedy Works July 13-15 … Sez who: “Luxury lies not in richness and ornateness but in the absence of vulgarity.” Coco Chanel

Bill Husted’s column appears Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Husted also appears Tuesdays and Fridays on “Good Day Colorado” on Fox 31. You can reach him at 303-820-1486 or at bhusted@denverpost.com.
