Elk camp. Elk tour. Take your pick, or take them both. The common denominators for the two upcoming events in the metro area are, of course, elk and the ways to successfully pursue Colorado’s favorite big game animal.

First, Elk Camp in the City 2006 will bring a variety of experts and information to a Saturday event sponsored by Christian Outdoor Fellowship of America. Scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beaver Ranch Community Park in Conifer, the event covers the gamut of elk-hunting situations, from shooting to camp cooking.

Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 13-17.

Then, on July 28-30, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation brings its Great Elk Tour to the Gander Mountain store in Thornton. Various experts, outfitters and manufacturers will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 28 and 29, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 30.

This free event will take place at 9923 Grant St., phone 303-450-8122.
