Samuel Adams George Washington Porter, $9.99 a four-pack
George Washington – first in war, first in peace, first in beer.
Washington was such a fan of porter, the traditional British beer style, he brewed his own. And, being a patriot, he encouraged others to refuse to consume any porter imported from England.
In honor of the nation’s 230th birthday and of our beer-brewing founders, Samuel Adams has released its four-bottle Brewer Patriot Collection, consisting of James Madison Dark Wheat Ale, George Washington Porter, Traditional Ginger Honey Ale and 1790 Root Beer Brew, all based on Colonial recipes.
George Washington Porter, in the style of the period, tends toward sweet, with bold tones of molasses and licorice plus the inherent sweetness of large amounts of malted barley.|Dick Kreck
