Maurice Greer, considered the top player in Colorado’s 2005 football recruiting class, has orally committed to play at Iowa State starting in 2007.

Greer, a former All-Colorado running back at Mullen High School, did not attend CU because of academic issues, and went to Garden City (Kan.) Community College, where he rushed for 566 yards (6.7 per carry) and five touchdowns. He will play one more year at Garden City before transferring to Iowa State, where he will have two years of eligibility.

Clapp takes CGA Match Play medalist honors

The 64-player field has been set for the 106th CGA Match Play Championship after Monday’s stroke play qualifying at the Plum Creek Golf and Country Club in Castle Rock.

Defending champion Patrick Grady is the exempt No. 1 seed, and Dean Clapp of Meadow Hills G.C. earned the second seed by taking medalist honors with a 6-under-par 66. James Kurtenbach of South Suburban G.C. fired a 68 and is the No. 3 seed. Robert Polk and Charlie Post, who shot 69s, are the fourth and fifth seeds.

Kim named PCL’s pitcher of the week

Colorado Springs Sky Sox pitcher Sun-Woo Kim was named pitcher of the week for the Pacific Coast League.

Kim has won four of his past five decisions, including three in a row, and pitched a three-hit shutout against the Fresno Grizzlies on Saturday. He is 5-3 with a 3.73 ERA.
