California phenom Nyjah Huston proved his second-place finish in the skateboard park at Louisville was no fluke on Thursday when he dominated a field of 30 skaters.
The dreadlocked 11-year-old – the youngest athlete on the Dew tour – displayed master skating skills to finish second in the preliminary round of skateboard park.
“He is like the Golden Child, who comes around once in a million years. Yeah, he’s that good,” skate judge Matt Milligan said.
Sheckler back from injury
Last year’s Dew tour all-around champion Ryan Sheckler got on his board Thursday for the first time since July 4 and eked out a painful ninth-place finish in the preliminary skateboard park contest. While the 15-year-old was hanging at the beach near his home in San Clemente, Calif., on the Fourth, he backpeddled away from a pair of wrestling goons and stumbled into a BBQ pit, burning his left foot.
He’s hoping to repeat last year’s domination of the skateboard park, but his foot, he says, “really, really hurts.”

A line of more than 100 Whiteheads threaded through the Dew Tour’s 99-degree festival village Thursday, one hour before the boarder-skater champion was scheduled to sign autographs.
Last month in Louisville, White dashed his two-season streak of nothing but gold with a 20th-place finish in the skateboard halfpipe. Given his notorious passion for victory, watch for White to give his Olympic best in today’s preliminaries.
