Beer baron and former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Pete Coors, through his attorney, pleaded not guilty to drunken driving today, a Jefferson County District Attorney’s spokeswoman said.

Coors was scheduled for arraignment on Thursday morning, but his attorney was in court on his behalf Tuesday and waived the appearance, said Pam Russell, spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s office.

Coors will appear at a pre-trial hearing on Aug. 25, Russell said.

He was cited for DUI on May 28 near his home while driving from a wedding in Golden.

A Breathalyzer test showed he registered a 0.088, slightly above the 0.08 blood-alcohol limit in Colorado, authorities said.
