Kent McKendry graduated as valedictorian of Golden High School with a 4.0 grade-point average. He is a 2006 Boettcher Scholar, which will pay for his four years at any in-state college.

Kent took Advanced Placement courses in calculus, Spanish, American government and European history, among others. He scored 2100 on his SATs.

Kent attends Applewood Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge and has been on mission trips to Canada and Chicago. He organized and ran a vacation Bible school in Mancos two years ago.

He was outside linebacker on the school football team, as well as shortstop and second baseman on the baseball team.

He has worked for the Students Reaching Out program, which pairs student leaders with special education students.

This fall Kent will attend business school at the University of Denver, where he will participate in the Pioneer Leadership Program.

Each week, The Denver Post honors an outstanding youth for his or her accomplishments.
