For the third year in a row, Forbes.com has named Denver/Boulder the No.1 city for singles. I know some single men and women who would beg to differ. Heck, they’d panhandle to differ.

Forbes.com based this decision on the number of singles, nightlife, culture, cost of living alone, job growth, online dating popularity and coolness.

Last year, Forbes.com sent reporter Leah Hoffmann to Denver to see what the deal was. Her story’s headline: “Denver: Stop Whining!”

All she met were men and women who thought the single life here was singularly disappointing. “Denver daters are grumpy,” Hoffmann wrote. “Apparently, a low cost of living, a host of cultural options and the beauty of the nearby Rocky Mountains aren’t enough to satisfy them.”

Well, it’s lonely at the bar.

In related news, Dos Lunas tequila was launched in Denver on Wednesday night at Chama, with reps noting Colorado ranks second of the 50 states in per-capita tequila consumption.

Singing cowboy

Kevin Costner debuted his unnamed five-piece band Friday night at Belly Up in Aspen. Before the set, movie clips featuring Costner were played for the crowd. An Aspen spy tells me Costner looked very “Bull Durham” with a backward ballcap and goatee. He played the guitar and sang, rock with a twangy country touch. “Overall, it was your basic fat-cat Aspen party in all its cheesy glory,” says my Aspen spy.

EATS

Los Troncos at 730 E. Sixth Ave. (across from Don’s Mixed Drinks) is set to become a second location for Lime, the Mexican restaurant/nightclub on Larimer Square, called Lime XS (extra small, extra special) … Speaking of Don’s, a sign in the window says “Back porch coming soon” – for smokers … We hear Emma’s at 603 E. Sixth Ave. will become a sushi joint run by John Holly from John Holly’s Asian Bistro … Aqua in Beauvallon set to open Aug. 5 – with a VIP birthday party for the building’s developer, Craig Nassi. He tells me Aqua will feature a raw bar, chilled shellfish, sushi and a new scene … BTW, the Cherry Cricket is a disgrace to the neighborhood, with peeling paint, gravel in the flower beds, and Irish and American flags hanging from the flagpoles like wet dishrags.

City spirit

Harrison Ford will receive the Independent by Nature award from Aspen Filmfest at a tribute Sept. 30 at the Wheeler Opera House … Three Dog’s Night Out lets you take your bow- wow to dinner at Yia Yia’s Aug. 3, brought to you by Three Dog Bakery … Dana Carvey comes to Girls & Guys Night Out on Nov. 11 – for the party’s 20th Anniversary Celebration to benefit Girls Inc., call 303-893-4363, ext. 109 … Indiana Pacer and CU alum David Harrison has been hanging out at seven eurobar in Boulder. They say he’s spending the summer there … We told you in May that Rick Schroder lowered the price of his 15,000- acre Glade Park ranch from $29 million to $27 million and he had a buyer. The deal is now a done deal … Sez who: “Being a celebrity is probably the closest to being a beautiful woman as you can get.” Kevin Costner
