Liberty Media Corp. has agreed to purchase BuySeasons Inc., the world’s largest Web-only retailer of costumes and accessories.
BuySeasons, founded in 1999, operates the BuyCostumes.com website and a private-label drop-ship program, Douglas County-based Liberty Media said Wednesday in a statement. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
The purchase adds costumes for Halloween and theater groups to Liberty Media’s Internet businesses that sell products from flowers to steak. Chairman John Malone will add BuySeasons to the Liberty Interactive tracking-stock group, which includes the QVC home-shopping network.
Liberty Media also has investments in Web companies including IAC/InterActiveCorp and Expedia Inc.
“We’re looking for things that are direct- to-consumer that can benefit from relationships with other Liberty Media affiliates,” said Liberty Media spokesman John Orr.
Tracking shares of Liberty Media Holding Corp.-Interactive fell 37 cents to $16.40 in Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading. They’re down 20 percent since May 5, when they began trading.
