The Under-19 Eclipse Select girls team from Illinois held off a late rally to defeat the Colorado Rush 3-2 on Wednesday in a preliminary-round game at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Sarah Wagenfuhr and Jessica Sandusky scored in the final 12 minutes for the Rush.
In the Under-16 girls division, Real Colorado National earned a 2-1 victory over Edmond SC Black of Oklahoma behind goals from Ashley Railey and Janae Deas.
Metro State hires Axel as volleyball assistant
Metro State hired Lisa Axel, a former assistant at North Dakota State, to be an assistant volleyball coach, head coach Debbie Hendricks said. Axel was at North Dakota State for two seasons, where she most recently was its interim coach. She played for Minnesota from 1999-2002.
Top stacker Fox on “CBS Early Show” today
ThunderRidge alum Emily Fox, now a sophomore guard for the University of Minnesota women’s basketball team, will appear on the “CBS Early Show” today to display her technique in sport stacking, a competitive cup-balancing sport in which Fox is a world record-holder.
