2 killed when small plane crashes near Winter Park
Two people were killed in a plane crash early Sunday in the Corona Pass area.
They were flying in plane known as a Champion Citabria 7KCAB airplane at the time of the crash shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday.
The identities of the dead were not immediately released.
The single-engine aircraft, which went down shortly after 7 a.m., was registered to 27-year-old Coe Hargraves of Hawaii. Hargraves, a former flight instructor in Boulder, said he sold the plane earlier this year, but he would not disclose the buyer.
“It was in good legal condition,” he said, noting that it passed a required inspection within the past year.
Hargraves said he knew the people who died but declined to reveal their names. “Everybody was well-qualified,” he said. “It was not an instructional flight.”
Hargraves said he received “about 20 calls” regarding the downed plane from friends today.
FAA officials could confirm only that there were two bodies in the wreckage; they did not know the flight plan.

Police officer fired after Taser incident
The city manager has fired a police officer who used a Taser last month on a 63-year-old homeless woman.
“Your decision to use a Taser on an elderly woman who posed no immediate threat to you… displays a complete lack of understanding of the values, philosophy and mission statement of the Aspen Police Department,” City Manager Steve Barwick wrote officer Melinda Calvano.
Calvano said she used her Taser on the woman for resisting arrest. “I have never been treated so horribly,” she said.
Barwick said Calvano can appeal her dismissal.

Report of Pikes Peak plane crash erroneous
A report of a plane crash on Pikes Peak in El Paso County turned out to be a false alarm, authorities said Sunday.
When crews reached the area where a tourist claimed to have seen a plane, they found only trees and logs, said Kevin Classen, incident commander of El Paso County Search and Rescue.
On Saturday, a tourist reported seeing a glint of light, as if from a windshield, and possibly an aircraft on the ground.

Across town, the barroom floor at the Sky Hotel was drenched, and the hotel’s basement garage was flooded.
