A man driving a white pickup truck sped through a red light in Lakewood early today and crashed into a motorcycle, dragging the motorcyclist to his death, officials say.

The driver of the Ford pickup sped away from the accident, which happened at 2:12 a.m., said Steve Davis, spokesman for the Lakewood Police Department.

Police found the truck and later contacted the owner at his home, Davis said. Police are now interviewing the owner at police headquarters.

It is unclear whether the truck owner was driving the vehicle when it crashed, Davis said. He could not release the man’s name or the name of the motorcycle driver, who was 46.

The motorcyclist was turning from westbound Stanford Avenue onto southbound Kipling Street when the driver of the truck ran a red light at the same intersection and smashed into the motorcycle, Davis said.

The motorcycle and its driver became entangled with the truck and were dragged, Davis said. He did not know how far they were dragged.
