They’re being called “short, dramatic series” but they’re better known around the world as “telenovelas.”
MyNetworkTV executives held a dog-and-pony show for area affiliates at KUSA-Channel 9 today to explain two new, ongoing series, “Desire” and “Fashion House,” which will premiere on KTVD-Channel 20, Sept. 5.
MyNetworkTV is a product of News Corp., which also owns the Fox network, Fox News and FX.
The two MNTV series will appear six nights a week from 7 to 9 p.m. for 13 weeks, without repeats, to a conclusion. Overall, eight MNTV series will run 52 weeks the first year, covering 624 hours of original programming.
Among the actors lined up for the shows are Bo Derek, Morgan Fairchild, Tatum O’Neal, Maria Conchita Alonso, Sofia Milos and Catherine Oxenberg.
“It’s programming we feel will engage the viewer,” said Paul Franklin, executive vice president of marketing for MNTV, on a 30-city tour to promote the new network.
“desire” is about two brothers who fall in love with the same woman while dodging gangsters and “Fashion House” is a behind-the-scenes look at the nasty world of high fashion.
MyNetworkTV, announced in February, will debut in 48 of the top-50 TV markets. Franklin said he expects the new series to appeal to the 18-49-year-old audience.
Cast members of “desire” were in Denver today, making public appearances on KDVR-Channel 31, the local Fox outlet, and on “Colorado and Co.” on Channel 9, which now owns KTVD.
Also on the mynetworktv.com website will be extensions of the storylines, fashion and cooking tips and prequels on the characters’ lives. Highlights of the two shows are already available there.
