That’s when Cherry Creek North stages the grand finale to its 2006 Gourmet Series, and chefs from Mel’s, Piatti Locali, North, Chinook Tavern and a dozen other of the district’s top restaurants will be on hand 6:30-9:30 p.m. to dish up some of their most popular menu items. There’ll also be live music, fine wines, top-shelf spirits, a Ketel One martini bar and a silent auction.

On Aug. 11, Rocky Mountain PBS marks its 50th anniversary with a cookbook signing and the opportunity to meet PBS chefs Rick Bayless, Lidia Bastianich and Nick Stellino. Colorado Humane Society marks its 125th anniversary by staging a benefit dinner at the Adam’s Mark Hotel on Aug. 19. There will be speakers, live and silent auctions, and the chance to view architectural renderings for a new state-of-the-art shelter to be built on land donated by the cities of Littleton and Englewood.
