Three Boy Scouts missing along the Colorado Trail for a day were found by rescue workers Thursday evening.

Members of Evergreen’s Alpine Rescue Team found the missing Scouts, ages 14 and 15, at Waterton Canyon, according to Park County Under sheriff Monte Gore.

“It was rainy, drizzly and cold when they were found,” Gore said. Groups of rescuers started at each end of the trail and were able to find the boys.

Park County sheriff’s officials declined to release the teens’ names.

The three teens became separated from their Denver metro-area troop while hiking the Colorado Trail through the Lost Creek Wilderness Area on Wednesday morning.

The boys were last seen at the Lost Park camping area south of Pine Creek. When they didn’t show up Wednesday evening at the Buffalo Creek camping area, a search was initiated, according to Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener.

The troop began a 42-mile hike along the Colorado Trail on Tuesday morning, Wegener said, adding that the lost boys were well-equipped for Wednesday evening.

It is unclear how the three boys became separated from their troop.

“We have suspicion that it had something to do with the weather in the area,” said Bill Barwick, spokesman for Alpine Rescue Team.

Members of Park County Search and Rescue worked in conjunction with Alpine Rescue Team to locate the missing boys.

“They were in pretty good shape when they were found,” Gore said.
