DID YOU KNOW
Savery Savory Mushroom Farm
Restoration is complete on the Savery Savory Mushroom Farm water tank at West 110th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. The tank, a Westminster historical landmark, has been restored to its 1948 appearance and put back on its 40-foot tower.
Listed on the State Register of Historic Properties, the project took five years, requiring extensive historical work and research.
The graphic artist team worked closely with the Westminster Historic Landmark Board while preparing the restoration.

REGIONAL NOTES
LAKEWOOD
School construction closes street
West Dartmouth Place in Lakewood will be closed to through traffic west of Independence Court and east of Old Kipling today through Aug. 11 as part of a $54 million Jefferson County Schools construction project.
The closure will allow completion of a rerouted West Dartmouth Place and a new roundabout that will connect the new Bear Creek K-8 School, which is under construction, and the new Bear Creek High School being planned.
COLONA
Concert, dinner benefit museum
The small town of Colona south of Montrose is gearing up for what organizers say will be its biggest event since the town’s early days of schoolhouse dances and ice cream socials.
Colona is hosting a fundraiser for the Ouray County Ranch History Museum on Sept. 15 that will feature singer Michael Martin Murphey, the Buena Vista band Carin Mari and The Pony Express, dancing and a traditional chuck wagon dinner.
Colona was once home to the Los Pinos Indian Agency and became a ranching-based community after families began settling there in 1874.
The fundraiser will be held at The Colona Stockyards at the historic Callaway packinghouse corrals, which were recently restored and reroofed.
Adult tickets are $100. Children under 6 get in free, while tickets for youths up to age 18 are $25.
For information, call Ginny Harrington at 970-626-4007. To buy tickets by phone, call the Ouray County Museum at 970-325-4576.
EVERGREEN
Mountain Heritage Fest Saturday
An old-time celebration at Hiwan Homestead Museum – the Mountain Rendezvous – is being revitalized Saturday as the Mountain Heritage Festival.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heritage Grove, which is next to the museum at 4208 S. Timbervale Drive in Evergreen.
The new festival mimics the old one in its celebration of the foothills area’s nonprofit community groups and Western heritage. It will feature oldtime games and contests at community groups’ booths, and music.
Each booth will include a “nickel collector” for donations to favorite organizations. The organization collecting the most cash will be presented with the Darst “Buck” Buchanan Award, which honors the early owner of the Hiwan Ranch.
For details, call the Hiwan Homestead Museum, at 303-674-6262.
