The Broncos’ suffered their first serious injury of training camp Saturday when defensive tackle Gerard Warren when down in agony with a dislocated big left toe during the team’s “live” full-pad, goal line scrimmage.
Warren had his toe yanked back in place before he was carted off the field. However, because the toe wasn’t broken, coach Mike Shanahan said Warren is only expected to be out the next two to four weeks.
A former first-round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns, Warren resurrected his career with the Broncos last season, then was signed in March to a six-year, $36 million contract extension that included a $10 million signing bonus.
Although, Warren is expected to miss most of the preseason, the Broncos are hopeful he’ll be ready to play by their season-opener Sept. 10 at St. Louis. Backing up Warren at defensive tackle are Demetrin Veal and Amon Gordon.
