A married couple from Boulder, Jeremy Horgan-Kobel- ski and Heather Irmiger, won men’s and women’s pro cross country races Saturday during the fifth round of the National Mountain Bike Series in Brian Head, Utah.
The couple also had first-place finishes at last year’s event, when Irmiger earned her first National Mountain Bike Series win. Saturday, Irmiger completed the single, 28-mile loop in 2 hours, 1 minute, 57.05 seconds. Shonny Vanlandingham of Durango was third in the 49-rider field.
Irmiger’s success moved her into second place overall in the National Mountain Bike Series cross country standings. Vanlandingham remains the leader after five events.
Horgan-Kobelski performed well on the same 28-mile loop that began at an altitude of 9,000 feet and climbed more than 2,000 feet before descending, finishing the course in 1 hour, 40 minutes, 13.05 seconds. That was more than three minutes ahead of Geoff Kabush of Canada, the runner-up in the field of 67 riders.
Alan Obye of Colorado Springs finished 11th.
Horgan-Kobelski is in first place in the men’s overall series standings, with Kabush second.
