Winning ticket sold in Wis. for $208.6 million jackpot

Fond Du Lac, Wis. – A single winning ticket for Saturday’s drawing for the $208.6 million prize in the multistate Powerball game was sold to someone in Fond du Lac, a city with a history of big jackpot winners, the Wisconsin Lottery said.

The ticket for the drawing was bought at Ma and Pa Grocery Express, which has its own winning history. The store is on South Main Street, called the “Miracle Mile” because several stores there sold multimillion-dollar winning tickets in the 1990s.

The winner had not come forward as of Sunday morning, said Phil Moses, co-owner of Ma and Pa’s.

The winning numbers drawn Saturday were 2, 3, 9, 48 and 50, and the Powerball was 23. The Power-play number was 2.

Ma and Pa’s will receive $100,000 for selling Saturday’s winning ticket, and it’s just the latest big payday for the grocery store.

It sold a winning Megabucks ticket worth $6.5 million in 1994. It has also sold winning tickets for $500,000 and several for $250,000 and $100,000.

Moses and a co-owner split one jackpot worth $138,000.

“We’re just overwhelmed,” Moses’ sister, Gena Singleton, said Sunday. “Any time we have a big winner, we’re so happy because we love our customers.”

She said customers often joke with her that they’ll give her $1 million if they win.

“Some say they’ll take me to breakfast,” she said. “I say, ‘Where? In Hawaii?”‘

Powerball is played in 29 states, including Colorado; the District of Columbia; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Baby kidnapped in robbery found OK

A 14-month-old boy reported kidnapped in a home robbery Sunday was found unharmed hours later in the back of a pickup several miles away.

A jogger returning to Fairmount Park found the baby crying in the bed of his truck.

The baby, Dowyane Reid, was “a little dehydrated, a little lethargic, but OK,” said police Lt. George McClay.

The child’s family reported that as many as 10 masked, armed men removed a window air conditioner and broke into their northwest Philadelphia row house Sunday morning.

The baby’s father and uncle told police they were pistol- whipped because they could not produce cash and jewelry.

The family said Dowyane’s mother and 3-year-old sister were forced into a closet and that the kidnappers vowed to keep the baby until they got the cash and jewelry they sought.

John Glenn, wife released from hospital

Former astronaut and Sen. John Glenn and his wife, Annie, were discharged Sunday from a hospital where they had been recovering from what he called a “very serious” car accident.

Neither Glenn, 85, nor his wife, 86, was seriously injured, said Dr. Paul Beery. Beery said the former senator suffered a minor fracture of his sternum.

“As far as this being minor, it’s not minor to me because it hurts,” said Glenn.

The couple were returning home late Friday from a fundraiser when Glenn tried to make a left turn onto a highway ramp. An oncoming car hit the front end of Glenn’s car. Police cited Glenn for failure to yield.
