Getting your player ready...

Throughout The International, Denver Post golf writer Anthony Cotton will speak with participants to get their take on life on the PGA Tour. Today, Dean Wilson, a five-year veteran with four top-10 finishes this season, talks about the day before a tournament.

“My routine depends on the week. I wasn’t in the pro-am here and I was off last week, so I’m just trying to get out here and become reacquainted with where my game was before I took the time off.

“I’d prefer to have the day off before a tournament begins rather than play in the pro-am. I can chip and putt, maybe play nine holes in the morning. Sometimes the pro-ams take a little too long. You’re out there for six hours chasing balls everywhere. You’re helping the amateurs and making their day an enjoyable one, but you can’t concentrate on your game and your preparation.

“I’ve had a good year so far, but I try not to worry about winning. The best thing for me, now that I’ve secured my card for next year, is to try and commit to each shot and play the best I can. Sometimes I get ahead of myself and then I get even more frustrated if things don’t go well. I have to make sure that, I know it’s an old cliché, but I try to stay in the present. That’s all we can do anyway; hit one shot, and then the next shot, that’s it.”
