Blooper immortality

Outfielder Rodney McCray, famous for a sports blooper, is being immortalized with a bobblehead. “Rodney McCray Bobblefence Night” will be held Saturday when the Triple-A Portland (Ore.) Beavers face the Tacoma (Wash.) Raniers. As a player for the Vancouver Canadians in 1991, he went back full speed for a deep fly into right-center and crashed through a Flav-R-Pac sign at the former Civic Stadium. A plywood fence panel flipped up when McCray hit, and he wound up on other side of the fence. As for the ball, it bounced off the wall and fell back into play, good for an RBI triple. “Usually it’s the big-league superstars who get their own bobblehead, so I’m very excited,” he said.
