Peach festivals

Downtown Palisade, Thursday-Aug. 20, $3 per day

Old Town Lafayette, Saturday, free

Colorado’s peach crop has peaked, just in time for two of the state’s favorite festivals. The big one in Palisade gets going Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. ice cream social and street dance, and runs through the weekend, including a fireworks show Friday night, a parade Saturday morning and the weekly farmers market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20. Find a schedule of events at palisadepeachfest.com. If a day is enough for you, head to the Lafayette Peach Festival from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday along Public Road. Get the details at discoverlafayette.com/peach.nsf/index.

Fresh Peach Shakes

Tami’s Burger Haven

5380 W. 44th Ave., Denver 303-431-5051

Beulah Uber stopped freezing peach ice cream years ago, but she missed the flavor so much that she resurrected the sweet taste of Colorado summer in limited-edition shakes and malts at Tami’s Burger Haven. Made from local fruit, these goodies will be whirred up for the next three or four weeks. A 16-ounce shake runs $1.85, a malt $2. Large versions are $4 for a shake and $4.50 for a malt.

It takes a powerful flavor to hold up against the rich taste of king salmon, but Bill Gillette found the perfect foil in Colorado peaches. Sauced and spiced to fiery perfection, 9-ounce jars of Fiery Palisade Peach Glaze are available online for $7.95, at Cottonwood Cupboard in Loveland, The Cupboard in Fort Collins, The Homesteader in Steamboat Springs and, starting in September, in Colorado Whole Foods Markets.
