Avalanche to hold rookie camp in Englewood

The Avalanche announced Wednesday it has invited 24 players to a rookie camp, to be held Sept. 10-12 at the South Suburban Family Sports Center in Englewood.

Among the 24 are Brad Richardson, Wojtek Wolski, Paul Stastny and Colorado’s top pick from this year’s entry draft, Chris Stewart.

The rookie camp is free and open to the public. Workouts will start at 10 a.m. and last 90 minutes.

DU men’s soccer picked fourth in conference

The University of Denver men’s soccer team was tabbed Wednesday by conference coaches to finish fourth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Pioneers return 19 letterwinners from a squad that finished 7-10-1 in 2005.

New Mexico, the 2005 NCAA runner-up, is the choice to finish first, receiving five of six first-place votes, followed by Sacramento State, San Jose State, DU and Air Force.

Rocky Mountain Rage signs four

The Rocky Mountain Rage signed two goaltenders and defenseman Sheldon Lee and forward Matt Reynolds.

Lee and Reynolds spent their rookie seasons this past season with Fort Worth of the Central Hockey League. The goalies, Trevor Cunning and Tyson Gajda, spent most of the past season in the United Hockey League. The Rage makes its home debut at the Broomfield Event Center Nov. 10 against Tulsa.

Adams State women’s basketball signs three

Former Harrison High School player Cheryl Lyles, a 6-foot forward, was one of three players to sign scholarship offers to play basketball at Adams State.

Also signing were Ashley Chambers, a 5-7 guard from Stockton, Calif., who was a teammate of Lyles’ at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore.; and Amanda Perry, a 6-3 center from Venus, Texas.
