Stunt taxes the brain
Justin Philpott, a 16-year-old NASCAR competitor, was taking part in an awards ceremony at the Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif., on Sunday when someone jumped a fence and hopped into his Chevrolet. “I heard my race car start up and slide away, so I turned around and started yelling and running after it,” Philpott said. The car’s path was blocked with tow trucks. Philpott’s older brother chased down the car, pulled out the man and tackled him to the ground. The “thief” turned out to be an actor filming a scene for a commercial for one of Philpott’s sponsors, TaxBrain.com. The Philpotts had not been told about the commercial.
A Horn-et’s nest egg?
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported in its Thursday editions that “the NFL will take no disciplinary action against the Tennessee Titans or their raccoon-costumed mascot for a golf cart accident that injured Saints reserve quarterback Adrian McPherson at halftime of last week’s exhibition game in Nashville.” The Titans’ mascot, T-Rac, plowed his golf cart into McPherson during warmup drills. McPherson suffered a deep bruise on his right knee, and has been unable to practice since. Saints receiver Joe Horn said, “If that had been me, I’d still be lying there. I would have owned a percentage of that team.”

Marbury’s marketable feat for the feet
Want to be like Steph? Well, it won’t cost you much. Stephon Marbury now is endorsing a sneaker that costs just $14.98, a pittance when compared with the often daunting prices that companies such as Nike and Reebok charge for their footwear. The “Starbury One,” a sneaker designed by Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear, went on sale Thursday. The New York Knicks guard, who is not being paid for endorsing the sneakers but will be compensated based on how well it sells, is expected to wear the sneakers during games next season.
