CRP aids pheasants
Using a U.S. Department of Agriculture survey as a base, the conservation group Pheasants Forever estimates that 13.5 million pheasants are produced annually on lands enrolled in the Conservation Reservation Program.
Currently, 25.5 million acres are enrolled in CRP as debate continues on construction of the 2007 Farm Bill. Congressional action will determine enrollment in the next cycle of a program beneficial to many forms of wildlife.
Western EcoSystems Technology of Cheyenne conducted the USDA survey and determined the impact on pheasants through a breeding bird survey along 388 routes nationwide.
