The owner of Golden- based Coleman Natural Products has consolidated the natural- and organic-meat company with another of its holdings in an effort to increase its position in the food-service business.
Coleman, which was purchased by Vail investor George Gillett in 2002 and operates under the corporate name BC Natural Foods LLC, on Tuesday merged with KDSB Holdings LLC of Gainesville, Ga. KDSB operates as Kings Delight in Gainesville and as Snow Ball Foods in Williamstown, N.J.
The deal creates one of the country’s 30 largest meat processors, with a combined 2,300 employees and 17 facilities in six states. The corporate headquarters for the company – now called Coleman Natural Foods LLC – will remain in Golden. Company leaders said they do not anticipate any job cuts.
A company spokeswoman declined to disclose its revenues, but the company’s claim that it will be among the top 30 meat processors indicates that its revenues will surpass $600 million, based on rankings in the industry publication National Provisioner.
Coleman has historically provided its natural-meat products to retail customers through grocers, although it has deals with restaurants, including Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard. KDSB Holdings primarily sells its products to food-service, school and institutional customers.
George Chivari will serve as chief executive of the combined company. He said the deal allows the company to provide more natural options to its food-service customers and is apt to result in some KDSB products appearing in retail settings under the Coleman name.
