Casper – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is asking hunters to donate the hearts from their big game this fall.

The hearts are needed to feed injured raptors at licensed rehabilitation centers in Casper, department officials said Wednesday.

Hearts are a good source of protein and contain less fat than meat from livestock. Old game meat other than hamburger, liver or other fatty meat can also be used.

Department officials suggest keeping donated hearts cool, clean and protected from insects. The hearts should be wrapped or put in a plastic bag and frozen if possible.
