BRING ON THE HEAT
Roasted Green Chiles
Jack-n-Grill
2524 Federal Blvd., Denver, 303-964-9544
Flooding in southern New Mexico did a number on this year’s Hatch green chiles, so thank the heat gods for sweltering weather around the fields of Socorro. Like plenty of other folks around the metro area, the folks at Jack-n-Grill have turned on the roaster out in the parking lot. Organically grown in Socorro, mild, medium, hot and extra hot chiles, roasted and bagged, sell for $18 a bushel. You can get smaller quantities, or commit to filling your entire freezer with a ton of summer flavor with a 2-bushel sack of chiles.

SHOPPING FOR NOSTALGIA
The Corner Pantry
Longmont Museum & Cultural Center
400 Quail Road, Longmont 303-651-8374
Long-time Longmont grocer Paul Shopbach had a soft spot for food packaging. His collection, which dates to the 1930s, tells the enduring story of marketing, packaging and branding. Visit The Corner Pantry exhibit between now and Oct. 15 and learn secrets of the trade, such as the fact that the cereal-pitching Kellogg brothers invented peanut butter, but failed to patent their discovery.
